![]() If you don't think you can find deals, I will say that I've recently bought four Mosins that are rare/scarce/uncommon, and I paid less than what common refurbs are listed for online (for each of those rifles). You can sometimes luck into items on those as well. I didn't think there were any near me when I first heard that suggested. If the country wasn't on lock down, I'd suggest looking for local auctions. There are a few online shops who sell C&R rifles (they'll have Finns from time to time). A lot of the "Buy it Now" and "Starting Bids" on Gunbroker seem to be ridiculously high anymore. I could be way, way off as I haven't hunted for any for a while. You'll find a nice M28 in the $400 range. It's a little easier to wait for good prices when you have most of the things you want. Those were good times I guess.įor me, it was a little tough to use some patience when new because I really wanted to own some of the neat rifles I saw. And I must say I am seeing double that price everywhere I look. I have grown quite fond of the Finish stuff. But, they've become a little more popular. They used to sit on Gunbroker for under $400 (usually 300-350) just a few years ago with little to no bidders. If you get lucky, you might find one for less. M28s that don't require a restoration can be found for the price I stated above. You would have paid too much money and would have been unhappy. He told me to contact him whenever I needed anything. He told me he was on my side and that I was perfectly in the right to cancel the purchase and said that his partner was a moody guy and that he would have a talk with him. I called him to try and smooth things for future purchases and got his parter who was a real nice guy. He doubled down and said his prices are firm as if a cracked stock were minutia. Hence the arrogance? In my attempt to honorably save the deal, even though I had a sour taste in my mouth, I asked for a discount that would make sense in light of the crack being discovered to apply towards a stock or repairs. I don't doubt it, they sell many rifles and have a great selection. ![]() Really? He never mentioned the crack, said he didn't notice it, and said defensively "I am not perfect," even though I told him that it was perfectly understandable that it could have been missed, and proceeded to tell me that for that price he's easily sell the rifle crack and all. He became upset and said that if I wanted perfection I should buy new guns or shop only in person. I am real disappointed with the seller as I thought I would do much business with him. Thanks for your input qz, that is precisely what I emphasized. In my earlier days, this was a great help to me. And, even though we discourage posting active auctions or sales, you could always PM one of the administrations and get their take. In the future it might be a good idea to reference this information before pulling the trigger on a rifle. There is a wealth of information here and elsewhere on just about any Milsurp you could buy. ![]() Unfortunately, he disclosed the refurb stock issue, so you can't rescind based on that. You should emphasize the crack in the stock as being the reason you wish to return it. How available are M28 stocks? What do you guys think? I presume I would need to modify a replacement 91/30 hand guard. Can any of you gather from the pictures a high likelihood that this rifle/stock was configured originally by the Finns? Has there been any evidence that this was a common or uncommon practice by the Finns? I love the idea of this rifle but I want it to be original Finn. The receiver is a Westinghouse and the barrel is a SIG "Schweiz Industrie Gesellschaft Neuhausen" and "Boxed 28" markings under the wood line ("average plus"), and seller rates the finish at 95%. Seller claims there are no import marks, indicating that the rifle must have come before the mid 60s. Seller described the stock as a "war time" Soviet stock 91/30 and states that this indicates the rifle must have seen action in the 40s: Winter War, Continuation War. The crack was not disclosed, I noticed it in the pictures after the fact. I just pulled the trigger on this Finnish M28 SPF in a 91/30 stock with a crack on the forward part of the hand guard on the right side near the barrel. ![]() New to the forum hoping to find some help. ![]()
